Salters’ Institute
Corporate Identity & Brand Guidelines

Client: Salters’ Institute
Created on behalf of: Hughes & Co Design
Date: November 2016

To redesign the branding and identity for Salters’ Institute which was founded in 1918 by The Salters’ Company, one of the 12 Great Livery Companies. The Salters’ Institute is its flagship charity and plays a major role in the support of chemistry teaching, the encouragement of young people to pursue careers in the UK chemical industries, and the promotion of chemical education including the whole area of curriculum development.

The Salters’ Institute brand identity is a visual representation of salt. Salt, such as sodium chloride, is formed when an acid and a base are neutralized in a chemical reaction. It is typically formed by the evaporation of salty water which contains dissolved Na+ and Cl- ions.
